We all know that who we associate with more often than not dictates the level to which rise. If we surround ourselves with negative people who only focus on the losses in their business and what isn’t working, chances are this will be fostered as an acceptable dynamic. The idea that you can maintain the same relationships on the same levels as you always have is not one that will bring you the results you want. All things change and in order to grow and achieve beyond where we currently are, these relationships need to change to.
Now that doesn’t mean cutting off all your friends because they don’t share your business goals or work ethic but it does mean getting involved with and being around others who do. The stream you drink from is the stream you become, as a wise mentor once told me, and so we need to make sure we are careful about who let into and let speak into various areas of our lives. Take moment to think about where you are headed and consider if your current environment is supporting that.
One of the best things you can do is to encourage your circles to engage in what you’re engaged in. If you’re reading a great book about wealth creation or business, share it with them and either loan it to them or encourage them to go out and buy it. If you’re involved in business clubs or networking groups, encourage them to come along and see why you are doing what you’re doing. It’s all about growing a community around you that is there to lift you up and propel you forward.
If you plant a seed in the ground, will it grow on its own? Chances are that the conditions it needs to thrive and grow properly are not going to be naturally occurring, so what do you do? You water it, you fertilise it, check it regularly to make sure it’s responding to what you’re doing and if it isn’t you change what you’re doing or ask someone who has successfully grown the same plant.
You can’t sit back and just let things happen, you need to take an active role and you need seek out others who are doing or have done what you plan to do. Always remember that the wheel only ever needed to invented once, but it was it’s application that changed and improved over time. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel, just find a new way of using it.
