What do you think of Facebook's new status update options?
So what did you think when you logged in to Facebook and first saw this on your business page? Chances are if you're a bit of Facebook veteran, you just shrugged it off as another update and started to fiddle with the options to see what they did. But what about those of you who already struggle with the use of Facebook for their business? Your reaction was probably more along the lines of "Oh what the hell is this now!?". Am I right?
The idea behind this update, in my opinion, was to bring all the functions most people want to use for their posting into one easy to find location and it does exactly that. The problem is that it could very easily lead business owners to think that, by using these posts, they don't need to put as much thought and strategy into their Facebook strategy. Once we go down that path, we start to see a drop in engagement, a drop in followers and a possible drop in leads.
Ok so these options seem like a great help and for some people they might be BUT, with a little fiddling, you'll find they actually limit your ability to customise your posts. Three of them just give you the exact same post with a different call to action button and you cannot change the image it uses. Personally, I can see why this would appeal to some people. With titles like "Get Phone Calls" or "Get Messages", some business owners might be flocking to use these as an easy option to populate their page with content.
My advice? Definitely make use of these occasionally. Directing people to call or message you are essentially the two easiest "Call To Action" options on Facebook and with so much traffic coming from mobile devices, you could find yourself with an increase in leads.
